Updated: Apr 4, 2023

The 2023 Shared Value Series:

A Strategy for Growth and Impact in Africa

As the Shared Value Africa Initiative (SVAI) reaches its fifth year of operation, our commitment to fostering sustainable and prosperous African economies is stronger than ever. In a bold move to emphasise the importance of collaboration and pan-African unity, the SVAI has opted to reinvent its annual Africa Shared Value Leadership (ASVL) Summit.

Instead of just one event, 2023 will see the launch of the Shared Value Series – an exciting collection of five separate events throughout the year, culminating in the 2024 ASVL Summit in Nairobi, Kenya.

The Shared Value Series is an ambitious endeavour designed to offer valuable networking opportunities, encourage cooperation, and spark conversation around various business sectors, with the common goal of establishing shared value in Africa. Each event will explore different themes, including leadership, sustainability, digital inclusion, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting.

An overview of the topics covered throughout the series

Here's a quick look at the impressive line-up of the 2023 Shared Value Series so far:

  1. CEO Connect in Kenya: This inspiring event, hosted in partnership with the Strathmore University Business School, will gather African leaders to exchange ideas and collaborate on the future of leadership and sustainability in Africa.

  2. Ghana Sustainability Roundtable: With a focus on sustainable development, this event aims to advance economic, social, and environmental progress in Africa.

  3. MWC Africa in Rwanda: This event, convened in Africa by the GSMA for the second year in person, will unite industry leaders to tackle connectivity challenges and discuss innovative solutions for digital inclusion across the continent. We will host a business roundtable addressing themes relating to the ICT sector and its intersection with sustainability.

  4. CEO Connect in South Africa: Another opportunity for leadership exchange, this forum will delve deeper into leadership and sustainability in Africa.

  5. ESG Africa Conference in South Africa: Gathering industry leaders and experts, this conference will explore solutions to common challenges faced when implementing ESG practices within organisations.

The Shared Value Series offers a unique opportunity for attendees to connect with like-minded professionals and organisations across a range of disciplines and sectors – across various countries

and platforms. Participants can broaden their networks, attain recognition, establish leadership peer connections, and acquire valuable insights and information by attending these events.

The format of the events will be varied and include transformational leadership roundtables, debates, one-on-one discussions, panel discussions, and interviews—ensuring a vibrant and engaging experience for all attendees.

The Shared Value Series is designed to generate momentum towards the 2024 Africa Shared Value Leadership Summit in Nairobi, Kenya. By aligning discussions with private sector focal points, such as leadership, sustainability, ESG, and digital inclusion, the series seeks to forge opportunities for shared value leaders to influence and advocate for the necessary impact and change to achieve equality and inclusion.

The essence of the Shared Value Series lies in the power of collective action. By working together, organisations can create a continent where "profit with purpose" takes centre stage in the company strategy. By scaling their efforts and nurturing sustainable communities, businesses can secure a brighter future for the African continent and the planet as a whole.

Through these events, the SVAI strives to bring like-minded organisations together, united behind one vision—building a more sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous future for all.
